From Coal To Cops is a fiction novel. The main character is an Australian guy Jake Campbell, who is working in an underground coal mine. Jake wants more from life and joins the Police Force. Jake is a good looking naive country guy who is divorced with two young sons. Australian humour is throughout the novel and so is Jake's brutal honest approach to Policing and life, he is a born protector and tangles with corrupt police, bikies, and drug dealers ferociously protecting the innocent using his fists and friends.
Jake is a stand out in the big smoke of Sydney but has no luck with the women he meets, going from one comical relationship to another. So hang on and enjoy the read of fun, drama and adrenaline in "From Coal To Cops"

The book has been reviewed in Local Newspapers and National ABC radio.
One comment which kept recurring is that the reader 'feels part of the journey as if watching a movie'.
I hope you enjoy the read. Thankyou John Hicks

The Author is a retired Australian Police Officer and the book is also available in print on ebay.

Set in Marree, Australia, 1884; this is the story of three Afghan cameleers as they set about delivering supplies along the Birdsville Track.

An in-depth look at the life of cameleers and the issues surrounding camel strings is brought into view, shedding a great amount of light on the subject of camels in the outback, opening the eyes of the reader as to the great work that camel strings performed during this time of expansion. Camels were able to out-work bullock teams and horses due to their abilities to adjust to a harsh land and the cameleers were no exception.

Brett Sheardon is the pseudonym for Nigel Clayton.

A child's life should be innocent, carefree and secure. Mary was only eight years old when she had to come to terms with living as a broken person in a broken world. She knows what it's like to struggle with tragedy and separation from those you love. After losing her parents through an accident, she is forced to endure the pain that comes to those wounded by the great divide.
Now twenty years later she is about to face the greatest test of her life. Mary and her husband Tony must face the trials and temptations of living in the Last Days before Christ's return. Will love and simple trust be sufficient resources to enable them to survive the hatred and coldness that is sweeping the world? Or will they succumb to the deception and violence that is beginning to take over society?

Mary was taught that love never fails, but will the words of her grandfather prove false as she finds herself isolated and vulnerable in the darkness? Across the Great Divide, Love and Hope in the End Times is a story that is both encouraging and shocking. It unveils the mystery regarding the prophesied return of Christ as well as revealing the challenges people will face during the Last Days.

As the age long battle between good and evil enters its final stage and the Antichrist prepares to step out of the shadows, the ultimate destiny of all humanity will be decided. The world won't end in nuclear war or catastrophic climate change. The events that are about to take place on earth ensure the final conclusion of human history will be far more dramatic.

This novel also contains a short study guide of the End Times.

This compelling Australian play was a success in London and was hailed by critics in New York for its vigor, integrity, and realistic portrayal of two itinerant cane cutters: Barney, a swaggering little scrapper, and Roo, a big roughneck. They have spent the past sixteen summers off with two ladies in a Southern Australian city. Every year Roo has brought a tinsel doll to Olive, his girl, as a gift to symbolize their relationship, but this seventeenth summer is different somehow. Old patterns must be broken, new ways found, as all four lovers come to face certain unpleasant truths about themselves. This unusual, compelling love story was made into a film entitled Season of Passion and starred Academy Award-winners Ernest Borgnine, Anne Baxter, John Mills and Angela Lansbury.

"Always gives the impression of having been written out of the author's heart and soul and because he had something that he passionately wanted to say."-New York Post

When people hear you are a Funeral Director the reactions vary. Some will quickly change the subject, but the majority of people will ask plenty of questions.
This is because there is an element of mystique about the profession. Consequently, people want to know what you do, and what you’ve seen.
This book starts from my early days as a Funeral Director’s assistant through to becoming a Funeral Director. It covers stories of tragedy, stories of laughter, stories of interest and some of the things that can and do go wrong!

I worked for a leading Auckland funeral directing firm for eight years. I worked there on two separate occasions—1986 to 1989 and again in 1998 to 2003.
This is my story, my thoughts, my observations. From dealing with bereaved families, or helping the New Zealand Police at tragic roadside smashes and murders, through to the funerals themselves. From funerals attended by the Prime Minister and high class society, to funerals attended by street kids and drug addicts. From funerals where attendance is in the thousands, through to the funerals where nobody came!

A Funeral Directors job is not all grief and sad stories. There is sadness associated with this industry, but it also has many moments of laughter, joy and boredom.
However, it is always, always interesting.

A PLACE IN TIME
By C. A. Hocking
Shortlisted for the Australian 2007 ACT Writing and Publishing Awards
C. A. Hocking’s debut novel, A PLACE IN TIME, explores the theme of what good people are driven to do in order to survive when pushed beyond human endurance.
Dan Campbell is a troubled man who sinks into depression as each birthday approaches. Thirty years earlier, on his 11th birthday, he’d witnessed his father's murder and saved his mother from a deranged stranger, but something is wrong with the memory of that terrible day. Something he can't quite see. Something just out of focus.
When his annual depression threatens his family’s wellbeing, he takes his mother back to his childhood home to confront his memories and find closure. Going back is never easy, but what Dan discovers there will turn his world upside down, for no-one and nothing is as he remembered and as the present meets the past, his very existence is threatened.

Dan McAndrew is a young school-teacher whose first posting is to Boulia, where, coincidentally, his uncle, Ted Hanrahan, had lived until he disappeared some years earlier. An aboriginal reveals to Dan the mysterious circumstances surrounding that disappearance, and as more and more of his uncle’s past unfolds, Dan becomes convinced that, not only was Ted Hanrahan murdered, but that the killer is stalking him too.

A novel set in North West Queensland in the 1950’s – a time when the living conditions in isolated communities could only be described as harsh, and when the people who lived there, either by choice or in search of obscurity, all reflected the ruggedness of their environment.

George Orwell’s 1945 satire on the perils of Stalinism has proved magnificently long-lived as a parable about totalitarianism anywhere—and has given the world at least one immortal phrase: “Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others.”This new dramatization sticks very closely to the book, and the production has toured all over England, Scotland, Wales and Romania in Orwell’s centenary year. “Dare I say it . . . as good as the book.”—Guardian

Transfigured Stages: Major Practitioners and Theatre Aesthetics in Australia captures the excitement of a key period in the emergence of postdramatic theatre in Australia in the 1980s and 1990s. It is the first book to discuss work by The Sydney Front (1986 - 1993) and Open City (1987 - ), and engages contemporary cultural and aesthetic theory to analyse performances by these artists, as well as theatre productions by Jenny Kemp and others. These performance practitioners are considered as part of an international paradigm attesting to forms of theatre that no longer operate according to the established principles of drama. This book also highlights the complexity of Indigenous theatre through its analysis of the Mudrooroo-Müller project staged in 1996.
